  1. assert semver.major, semver.minor, and semver.patch extract integer release components from valid version strings
  2. assert semver.prerelease returns an array of string and numeric identifiers for prerelease versions or null for stable releases
  3. assert semver.validRange parses and normalizes valid range expressions into canonical comparator sets and returns null for invalid ranges
  4. assert semver.outside determines whether a version is strictly greater or less than all satisfying versions of a range
  5. assert semver.gtr and semver.ltr evaluate whether a version is strictly greater than or strictly less than an entire range
