pooch 1.9.0: pooch

Contrat

  1. pooch.__version__ exposes a valid release version string matching the pinned package version.
  2. pooch.os_cache returns an operating-system specific cache directory as a pathlib.Path containing the provided application namespace.
  3. pooch.file_hash computes cryptographic checksums for local files using sha256 by default and supports alternative algorithms including md5.
  4. pooch.check_version validates PEP440 version strings and replaces unreleased development version strings with the designated fallback string.
  5. pooch.check_version raises packaging.version.InvalidVersion when given an invalid version string.
  6. pooch.get_logger returns the default pooch Logger instance and supports configuring logging levels.
  7. pooch.HTTPDownloader initializes with configurable download parameters including chunk size, progress bar display, and custom request headers.
  8. pooch.DOIDownloader initializes with configurable DOI download options including chunk size and request timeout.

NOTES.md
# pooch Package Verification

This sample pins `pooch` 1.9.0 and verifies core module functions and classes.

The contract verifies:
- `pooch.__version__` exposes a valid release version string matching the pinned package version.
- `pooch.os_cache` returns an operating-system specific cache directory as a `pathlib.Path` containing the provided application namespace.
- `pooch.file_hash` computes cryptographic checksums for local files using sha256 by default and supports alternative algorithms including md5.
- `pooch.check_version` validates PEP440 version strings and replaces unreleased development version strings with the designated fallback string.
- `pooch.check_version` raises `packaging.version.InvalidVersion` when given an invalid version string.
- `pooch.get_logger` returns the default pooch `Logger` instance and supports configuring logging levels.
- `pooch.HTTPDownloader` initializes with configurable download parameters including chunk size, progress bar display, and custom request headers.
- `pooch.DOIDownloader` initializes with configurable DOI download options including chunk size and request timeout.

Clean-room public code sample — generation instructions

Write a brand-new, minimal, self-contained code sample in this clean-room directory.
Do not copy, paraphrase, or reference any existing project source. Work only from this spec.

A csx.json manifest scaffold already exists. Do not recreate it from memory. Preserve its case.goal, packages and symbols; fill its empty case.contract with exact assertions and correct its environment, commands and verifierAdapter for the files you generate.

Goal: verify pooch in pkg:pypi/pooch@1.9.0
Kind: HOW

Use EXACTLY these public packages and versions:
  - pkg:pypi/pooch@1.9.0
Demonstrate these symbols/APIs:
  - pooch

Rules:
  - One focused purpose; the smallest project that proves the goal.
  - Include a contract test (test/contract.*) that runs OFFLINE and exits 0 exactly when the goal behavior works.
  - Pin every dependency with a lockfile so resolution is reproducible.
  - No secrets, credentials, or tokens. No real URLs (only example.com or localhost). No absolute paths.
  - No personal names, emails, company names, or project identifiers of any kind.
  - No binaries and no generated output (node_modules, dist, target, venv, .git, .env).
  - Keep it under 200 files and 256KB packed.
