MIT-0

Contract

  1. isGeneratorFn returns true for generator function declarations, expressions, and generator methods
  2. isGeneratorFn returns false for standard synchronous functions, arrow functions, async functions, and async generator functions
  3. isGeneratorFn returns false for generator iterator instances produced by calling generator functions
  4. isGeneratorFn safely returns false for non-function primitives, null, undefined, arrays, and objects

# CSX Sample Notes: is-generator-fn contract verification

## 1. Search Result
`search_known_solution` returned NO_SAFE_MATCH for `pkg:npm/is-generator-fn@2.1.0` verifying `is-generator-fn`. This sample proves exact runtime semantics for generator function detection in modern Node.js and ESM environments.

## 2. What a Model Would Have Written
A naive model would:
1. Confuse generator functions (`function* () {}`) with generator iterator instances (`(function* () {})()`) and expect `isGeneratorFn` to return `true` for both.
2. Expect `async function* () {}` (async generator functions) to return `true`, even though in `is-generator-fn@2.1.0` their constructor name is `AsyncGeneratorFunction` and `toString` tag is `[object AsyncGeneratorFunction]`, making `is-generator-fn` return `false`.
3. Try to check `fn.constructor.name === 'GeneratorFunction'` without guarding against `typeof value !== 'function'` or missing `constructor` properties (e.g. `Object.create(null)` or prototypes stripped).
4. Rely on TypeScript or Babel transpilation instead of validating native Node.js ESM runtime behavior.

## 3. How the Wrong Version Fails
1. Passing a generator instance `const gen = (function* () { yield 1; })();` to `isGeneratorFn(gen)` returns `false` because `typeof gen === 'object'`, causing assertions expecting `true` to fail with `AssertionError: expected false to equal true`.
2. Expecting `isGeneratorFn(async function* () {})` to return `true` fails because `is-generator-fn@2.1.0` specifically targets synchronous generator functions.
3. Accessing properties directly without function type checks throws `TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined` or `null`.

Clean-room public code sample — generation instructions

Write a brand-new, minimal, self-contained code sample in this clean-room directory.
Do not copy, paraphrase, or reference any existing project source. Work only from this spec.

A csx.json manifest scaffold already exists. Do not recreate it from memory. Preserve its case.goal, packages and symbols; fill its empty case.contract with exact assertions and correct its environment, commands and verifierAdapter for the files you generate.

Goal: verify is-generator-fn in pkg:npm/is-generator-fn@2.1.0
Kind: HOW

Use EXACTLY these public packages and versions:
  - pkg:npm/is-generator-fn@2.1.0
Demonstrate these symbols/APIs:
  - is-generator-fn
Required runtime conditions:
  - ecosystem: golang
  - language: go
  - packageManager: go@1.26.6
  - runtime: go@1.26.6

Rules:
  - One focused purpose; the smallest project that proves the goal.
  - Include a contract test (test/contract.*) that runs OFFLINE and exits 0 exactly when the goal behavior works.
  - Pin every dependency with a lockfile so resolution is reproducible.
  - No secrets, credentials, or tokens. No real URLs (only example.com or localhost). No absolute paths.
  - No personal names, emails, company names, or project identifiers of any kind.
  - No binaries and no generated output (node_modules, dist, target, venv, .git, .env).
  - Keep it under 200 files and 256KB packed.
