# Notes: Rollup CommonJS Plugin External Module Imports with esmExternals

## Search Result
`search_known_solution` returned `REFERENCE_ONLY` (sample only available for v29) for `esmExternals` in `@rollup/plugin-commonjs@28.0.2`. Existing public samples for version 28.0.2 only cover `strictRequires`, `dynamicRequireTargets`, and `ignoreTryCatch`. This sample verifies external module interop handling via the `esmExternals` configuration option in `@rollup/plugin-commonjs@28.0.2`.

## Naive Model Assumption
Developers and models often assume that `@rollup/plugin-commonjs` inspects external packages or automatically imports external dependencies as ES module namespace objects (`import * as mod from 'mod'`).

## Failure Mode
By default (`esmExternals: false`), the plugin assumes all external dependencies are CommonJS and renders require calls as static default imports (`import require$$0 from 'external-dep'`).
